lyrics

Man, it's getting harder and harder to hold onto hope these days...which raises an interesting point about gingerale, and how gingerale is ordered with exponentially greater frequency aboard airplanes.
And that got me thinking: if being 30,000 feet away from our lives can allow us to accept gingerale as a commonplace beverage, then maybe a change in perspective can allow us to accept other things.
Like maybe we can accept that we did start the fire this time,
Or maybe we can accept that Beyonce is overrated.
Or maybe, just maybe we can all cram into the coach section of one massive metaphorical airplane soaring high above our tiny, fearful lives, order gingerales and accept one another.
Liberals and conservatives! People who mind their own business and people who insist that you try this fish even after you’ve told them you don’t like seafood!
Brothers and sisters of all races and all religions -- sing with me!

Oh, New York, New York!
Let's take it all the way back to one particular sleepless night in my second week of school.
When try as I may, I could not stop my brain from repeatedly replaying the tragedy of that day:
I'd made my first ever attempt to speak to a beautiful woman in my fledgling college career, and what had come out was "Are you a vegetarian? You look like a vegetarian."
So there I lay, still drowning in shame, and in that moment on September 10th, 2001 I created a mantra that I've said every night since, and it goes like this:
I believe, I have faith that tomorrow will be a better day!
I believe, I have faith that tomorrow will be a better day!

Ladiiieeees and gentlemen! We have arrived at our third and final act, in which all of our beloved heroes are revealed to have been villains all along.
Give me one hit for our broken hearts!
Give me one hit for the constant undercurrent of fear!
Give me one hit for being completely unable to sleep unless I turn my phone off and leave it in the next room!
But I am here to say that you can numb me to news of another mass shooting, but I will not be broken.
You can subject me to the indignity of another ineffective paper straw, but I will persevere.
Turn our hallowed into holograms, stab me with the cynic’s knife, but I will cling to the conviction that this is still a great life.
